Buratbulak Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Near the village of Buratbulak, South Nuratau Range. Yu.I. Loshkin et al. in 1965 within the middle-upper Llandovery (457, p.37, scheme 6; 441, p.92-93). Later, the age was changed to upper Llandovery (271, p.42). Due to the suite compiled by Yu.I. Loskin includes formations of different facies and ages, the term has been removed from usage.
Synonym: Buratbulakskaya Suite, Буратбулакская св.
Lithology and Thickness
According to A.A., it was subdivided into two sub-suites:
Lower - sandy-siltstone-slate, characterized by graptolites of the Llandovery and Upper - limestone-slate. Total thickness 450-500m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Lower and upper contacts are tectonic (Loskin et al., 1965).
Upper contact
Lower and upper contacts are tectonic (Loskin et al., 1965).
Regional extent
Southern Nuratau Range, central part of the southern slopes of Karachatay, southeastern end of the Aktay Mountains.
